I’m Chris Francis, a Cardiff wedding photographer and contemporary image maker based in Cardiff Bay, South Wales, UK. I began my visual career with a love of drawing at an early age. I always had a desire for a creative life and studied for my BA (hons) degree in Fine Art having a passion for mark making, line drawing, painting and photography, in particular documentary photography. People make the world go around and I am passionate about capturing people in their environment.

I love travel, seeing new places and meeting new people with my wife Vicki and we and try to experience new places at every opportunity.  In fact most of what we live for is to travel the world and see and experience new stuff! Of course, I also take my cameras too! I never really go anywhere without one and you can find lots of my travel photographs on the web and in the galleries on this website from our latest travels around Asia and other adventures we have undertaken. This photograph was taken in Burma, where we travelled independently to Inle Lake and witnessed the amazing Balloon Festival near there.

Not just a Cardiff wedding photographer!

Despite the love for travel sometimes there is no place like home and the Welsh coast and countryside is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We live in the perfect place to explore our home country while still living with the city benefits of Cardiff. Wales and the West of England is within easy reach. Even London is only 2 hours away. As a Cardiff Wedding photographer I live in an ideal location for many great venues and have travelled so far to places in between and including Aberystwth and Bedford to document weddings.

How I became a Cardiff Wedding Photographer

I started photographing weddings having discovered a passion for it, after being asked to do it by others as a result of taking candid photographs at other friends weddings. Previously to my full time career as a Cardiff Wedding Photographer I trained as a Fine Artist, Specialising in Painting and Printmaking including darkroom printing. After gaining my BA Hons in Fine Art I worked for a printer and then fell into many financial services based roles after moving back to Wales. I have held exhibitions at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff and also showing work in Liverpool while I was finding the love for documenting weddings. Once I had found the joy of wedding photography I have not looked back. I have found a passion in it that allows me to fulfil my creative needs, delivering stylish and emotive images, high quality products and customer service to my couples as standard ensures total satisfaction for all.

I am genuinely so pleased to have been asked to document so many weddings so far and am still honoured to be considered to photograph anyone’s wedding. Every wedding is unique and special and I love this aspect of the job as for me it is a great story telling opportunity. At weddings, people come together as families and friends and this makes for fantastic photographic opportunities which is why I love my work so much.

Wedding photography is very challenging, but also extremely rewarding. There is a need to be ‘ready’ to document different happenings within fractions of time. Framing and anticipating moments, dealing with constantly changing light conditions whilst trying as best as possible to merge into the wedding party, in order to capture genuine moments between family and loved ones.

I observe rather than orchestrate and indulge myself in the proceedings of the wedding day in order to blend into the background and create natural, stylish, and truly emotive images.

Not just a Cardiff Wedding Photographer, I am available for all weddings, throughout the UK and Worldwide and would love to hear from you if you are reading this and are looking for the perfect wedding photographer. Get in touch to see if I have availability for your date here. You can find me on many social media platforms where I share my work. Please join me – it would be great to hear from you.
