Charlotte and Mike’s Llandaff Cathedral Wedding
Charlotte and Mike got married at the amazing Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff. I had yearned to shoot a wedding here for years. Now was my time to shine, along with the sun for most of the day. It was wonderful!
Mike got ready at the Copthorne Hotel, indulging in a few glasses of champagne, while Charlotte did exactly the same at her family home with her girlfriends. It was easy for me to capture the boys getting ready and then shoot off up the road to meet the girls and capture the excitement of the preparations. Not only was the getting ready at Charlottes family home but it was also to be the location for the reception, with one of the biggest marquee’s, in one of the biggest gardens I have ever seen! They had tables named after many historic churches and religious sites around the world which both Charlotte and Mike had previously visited. A very nice personal touch. They had also used one of the photographs I had taken from the free pre wedding shoot, that I offer to all my clients, to create a banner above the stage where the band were to play later on in the evening. It looked awesome I must say.
The ceremony took place in the early afternoon and it was a special place due to Charlotte’s Grandmother and Mother also having got married there. The Vicar made a special exception and allowed me to go to the top of the Cathedral to take a birds eye view of the congregation as this was the only real request Charlotte had made for the wedding photography, as the same shot had been taken in the previous family weddings held there. (Health and Safety is now apparently an issue in this day and age, so this is rarely allowed now) I was pleased to be able to achieve my clients wishes and Charlotte and Mike were also very pleased to get the shot they wanted.
We took a few portraits for 10 minutes in the grounds of the cathedral after the wedding party had left for the reception venue and headed off to the garden party at the family home where my normal documentary photography continued during the reception and through into the evening. Take a look through the gallery and share your thoughts in the comments if you would like to.
