It had been a while since I had done a church wedding so I was really looking forward to Rhian and Chris’ wedding at St Pauls Church in Port Talbot and the reception at The Towers, Swansea. I arrived early at Rhian’s family home having been invited to capture those important moments during the bridal preparations and thankfully the ‘sideways rain’ was holding off.
Rhian’ dress was absolutely stunning and her family were ever so welcoming and with Chris’ parents home just around the corner, it was easy for me to be able to pop over to capture some of the boys getting ready shots too.
St Marks was very grand and I loved working the church for a change. They are such great places to photograph with plenty of light and atmosphere. Rhian made a few jaws drop when she entered and the ceremony was full of love and laughter. I grabbed some fab moments between the two sweethearts. The parish church welcomed confetti which is such a great shot to take for any photographer. The big man must have been looking down as there was still no sign of the ‘sideways rain’ that was forecast for the whole day!
We had planned to go down to Aberavon beach or the local park for some photographs but due to the very strong winds Rhian and Chris decided to go straight to the Towers to continue with the celebrations where we took some formal shots in the reception room there and a bride and groom shoot in the Tower. I’m always up for anything photographically including windy and rainy shots but I always respect my client’s choices as it is their day and I want it to go how they want it to. We got some great shots in the Tower and just as the light was fading and the rain had stopped I asked them to go outside with the ‘Happily Ever After’ sign that they had bought for their big day and it made for such a fairy-tale image with the Tower in the background.
An amazing day and evening was topped off with Fat Barry’s Soul Band playing out to the captivated crowd. I thought that Stevie Wonder was there at one point! These guys were absolutely top notch and I wish I could have stayed for longer!
