I’ve worked as a wedding photographer at Insole court quite a few times now. It’s a wonderful mansion in the heart of LLandaff, built for the Insole family in 1857 who had made their fortune in the Welsh coal industry. Originally called Ely House the building went though an extensive changes eventually falling into disrepair and was restored via community support and lottery funding in 1988. It is now managed and is undergoing constant repair and regeneration by the Insole court trust as a heritage and community asset.

Reopened in 2017 Insole Court now welcomes the public all year long, holds wonderful community events and weddings and you can just rock up with your picnic basket and have a stop of lunch, more or less whenever you want to. Do it. The grounds are fantastic and a great spot to while away the afternoon with a book amongst so much Welsh history.

The latest wedding I documented at Insole Court was a booking from the getting ready through to the speeches. John and Wendy booked me based on a recommendation from the wedding planner at Insole. Having been a bridesmaid at two other weddings I had documented, she thought that my relaxed style of documentary wedding photography would be an excellent choice for this chilled out, mature couple, who were just head over heals in love with each other. They also seemed to agree and booked me to capture their wedding photography at Insole Court 🙂

John and Wendy wanted all the important moments captured without much interaction from a photographer. A couple of posed photographs and quality family group shots. Specialising in documentary wedding photography my approach is to capture unscripted moments spontaneously and as unobtrusively as possible. This is my focus always but of course I can command a crowd if needed and organise the images you desire.

The getting moments before the wedding with Wendy and her daughters were precious and the energy around John and Wendy during their celebrations was so hi vibe. I remember the day vividly. From the tiny room where the ceremony took place to the lovely speeches around the beautiful table.

The family energy was fantastic with lots of new beginnings to celebrate and I really enjoyed capturing their moments at Insole court. Also, what an amazing top hat John had. I am a big fan of hats and that was just perfect. If you are looking for a wedding photographer to cover your event at Insole Court I’d love to be considered.
